Economic cooperation dialogue
An economic cooperation dialogue on regional connectivity and border special development zones in eastern South Asia is being jointly organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Government of Meghalaya, and the North Eastern Council on April 25-26 at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. The dialogue is being attended by senior officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal and the NE states, as well as regional experts, development partners, business organizations and other key stakeholders.
Earth Day observed
The Meghalaya Institute of Natural Resources of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority in collaboration with Young Indians, Meghalaya Chapter, observed the Earth Day by organizing a cleaning drive of the Umshing River with the cooperation of students from various schools and colleges and local residents of the area, besides heads of local Dorbar.
Notice to miners, drivers
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills, has informed all coal mine owners and truck owners that transportation or carrying of coal from the coal mines or jungle to the coal depot will not be allowed and is strictly prohibited. Stern action will be taken against the violators and their names will be furnished to the NGT.
Teachers’ meeting
The general meeting of the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association, Jaintia Hills, will be held on April 23 at Tpep-pale Community Hall, Jowai at 10:30 AM.
Garments distribution
Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Kolkata, through its Ramakrishna Mission Ashram at Sohra, organised an adult garment distribution programme in collaboration with ITC Limited, Kolkata, on April 22 at Nongwar in East Khasi Hills.
Musical programme
The Cornerstone is organizing “An evening of Gospel Music” on April 23 at Soso Tham Auditorium, Meghalaya from 4 PM onwards in aid of Lawei Baphyrnai Children’s Home, a project of the Reach Shillong Ministries. The evening will include performances from Atiar, Lamphrang Syiemlieh, Devoted Radiance, Eddie Kharjana and others.
General Council
The 19th annual general council of the Ka Sengkur Ki Khun Ka Khmah Lyngdoh Mawphlang held recently at Lumkshaid Dorbar Hall, Mawprem, has appointed new office bearers with Honsen Lyngdoh Mawphlang and Nobil Lyngdoh Nonglwai as advisers, Kynsai M Lyngdoh Nongpuir as president, Aristotle Lyngdoh Mawphlang as general secretary and Winter R Lyngdoh Mawphlang as treasurer, besides other office bearers and 46 executive members.
