RKM distributes garments to needy

SHILLONG: The Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Kolkata, through its Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama at Cherrapunjee (Sohra) organised an adult garment distribution programme, the sixth phase  in the series of its kind, on Saturday, to the poor and needy adults of Swer region in East Khasi Hills.
Like the preceding ones, this distribution programme was also done in collaboration with ITC Limited (Headquarter at Kolkata), as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme of the latter.
The village headmen attending the programme came from the villages of Swer, Laitkroh,  Mawrah, Nongkynrih, Madanlyngdoh, Mawkning, Jalynteng among others.
Titos Chyne, MLA, Sohra graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while M S Rao, Chairman SPVS, Shillong showed his presence as the Guest of Honour.
Rev Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj inaugurated the garments distribution programme to the two oldest members, Jrier Nongrum and Wor Nongrum.
Garments costing over Rs 7.70 lakh were distributed among a total number of 347 residents of twelve villages. 61 blankets were also distributed among the old and orphanage children of 12 mer.
