Demand to include Khasi subject in ‘Bengalee’ schools

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union Laban circle has urged the State Education department to incorporate Khasi subject at Laban Bengalee Boys’ School and Laban Bengalee Girls’ School.In a statement issued to the press, the KSU unit said that the schools have no difficulty in including Khasi language as a subject but the government has not been taking up the matter seriously as it is yet to sanction posts for Khasi subject teachers despite the schools’ proposals.The organization expressed concern over the local language not getting its due importance as some schools do not include the subject in their syllabus.
