SHILLONG: Shillong, well known for several things, also boasts of the sanctified visit of Swami Vivekananda, the great patriot saint of India, at the very beginning of the Twentieth century.
He delivered the last public lecture of his life on April 27, 1901 at the then Quinton Memorial Hall, where today stands the well-known Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
To commemorate the 115th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Shillong, the Ramakrishna Mission is organising a foundation day celebration at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre here which will culminate on Wednesday.
Governor V. Shanmuganathan will attend the concluding function on Wednesday.
Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, Assistant General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal will be presiding over the meetings. R.M. Mishra, Principal Secretary, Planning department, will be the guest of honour.
For the afternoon session on Wednesday, Amitabha De, Director, IIM Shillong, will grace the occasion as the chief guest, while A.C. Marak, Director, DSEL, Meghalaya, will be the guest of honour. The presidential address will be delivered by Revered Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj.
Over 2,600 computer trainees of the current session are expected to attend the function.
