SHILLONG: The UDP State Youth Wing has decided to meet Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education R.C. Laloo to seek his response over the delay in release of scholarship money to the students in the State, despite his assurances.
“During question hour in the Assembly session held recently, questions pertaining to the pending scholarship money were raised by Titosstarwell Chyne and Embhahlang Syiemlieh to which the Education minister replied that the scholarship money has been raised,” UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh said on Wednesday.
Lyngdoh maintained that the assurance of the minister is misleading and added that the UDP will approach him as some of the students have not received their scholarship money.
“The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has released the money and it is surprising that the students are in fix as the money has not reached their hands yet and this raises a question as to where the money is,” he said. The UDP leader also raised concerns over the heavy bags carried by the school children resulting in health strains on the children and added that leaders of the UDP youth wing will find out the proper weight of school bags to be carried by the students and the report of the findings will be submitted to the party leaders for necessary action.
“Heavy backpacks make the children susceptible to spinal injury and slip disc and others,” Lyngdoh said.
The party also asked the State government to arrange buses for school children in urban and rural areas and in this regard the party has appointed Allantry F. Dkhar and Jefrey Khymdeit to make a report.
