NONGSTOIN: The people of Rambrai Jyrngam area have decided to file a PIL in the High Court of Meghalaya over the delay in holding by-election to vacant district council constituencies whose representatives resigned following the Bill passed by the state government debarring a legislator from holding the post of MDC.
The decision was taken during a public meeting held at Nonglang attended by local MLA and former MDC of Rambrai Jyrngam, K.P. Pangniang, W.C. Paliar, an HSPDP candidate for the District Council poll, village elders and hundreds of villagers.
The meeting was convened after the people of the constituency were confused as the Government failed to implement the dual post Bill passed in October last year.
The worry of the people is that six months have passed, yet there are no signs of any preparations on the part of the state government to hold the by election.
“The people of my constituency are confused as there is no MDC to represent the constituency, and we want the Government to give a clarification as to what is the reason for the delay in holding by election,” Pangniang said during the public meeting.
He also added that for the last six months after he resigned as MDC, people are in the dark as they are yet to get any answer from the government regarding holding the by-poll.
Pangniang asserted that there is no other option than to file a PIL in the High Court against the Government for the delay in implementing the dual post Bill and holding by-election.
