Central forces to arrive shortly

SHILLONG:   Meghalaya DGP Rajiv Mehta has said that the State has made elaborative security arrangements for smooth conduct of by-poll to Tura parliamentary seat slated for May 16.
He said that 33 companies of central para military forces,which the state had sought for the by-poll, will arrive shortly.
“We are hopeful that the centre will respond to our requirements at the earliest,” the DGP said.
Currently there are 19 companies of central para- military forces deployed in Garo Hills which are mainly used for anti-insurgency operations.
Meanwhile, the State Government has asked the Central Government to sanction 15 more companies of central para military forces for the state especially for the militancy- ravaged Garo Hills.
The request was made by the State Government  during a meeting with the  Joint Secretary of Home Ministry  S Garg here on Monday.
During the meeting, the State Government asked the Joint Secretary  to sanction atleast   15  companies of   central armed forces.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Roshan Warjri,  Chief Secretary KS Kropha,  Spl. DGP (SB/CID) SK jain  among others.
