New outfit serves demand note to EJH headman

SHILLONG: The headman of a village in East Jaintia Hills has been served an extortion note of Rs 2 lakh by a group identifying itself as East Jaintia Examinary Army (EJEA).
W. Chyrmang, headman of Jalaphet village, lodged a complaint that on April 30, he received a letter signed by one Ciril Rymbai, demanding Rs. 2 lakh from him in the name of East Jaintia Examinary Army. The group instructed him to deposit the money in the bank account of one Lalrivunga Ralte Zawlnuan. When contacted, police said that investigation was on even though the claimed to be unsure whether the extortion note was the handiwork of a militant group or some petty miscreants.
