TURA: The illegal occupation of land belonging to a Church by people from a minority community in West Garo Hills District has been brought to light by the All A’chik Youth Federation (AAYF).
According to the federation, several people from the Muslim community namely, Md Hojorot Ali, Md Atul Sarkar, Md Asimmudin Sheik, Md Kalu Sheik, Md Abdul Malek, Md Ansary, Md Abdul Hussain and Md Kumud Mohanto have been occupying land belonging to the Batabari Baptist Church for the last many years without any consent from the Church authority or valid documents from the village Headman.
What is interesting is the fact that the illegal occupation is being done in direct violation of the eviction notice issued by the GHADC.
The eviction order was issued by the GHADC in 2007, however, nothing more has been done by the authority to ensure that the order is complied with.
Meanwhile, the AAYF has submitted a complaint to the Secretary of the GHADC urging him to act immediately upon the matter. It gave the GHADC 15 days time to evict the illegal occupants failing which it warned that it would not be accountable for any untoward incidents.
