JOWAI: In a sudden development, the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) chairman Laitsing Shylla has resigned from the post.
Shylla handed over his resignation letter to the JHADC Deputy Chairman Hopingstone Bareh here on Wednesday.
“Due to unavoidable circumstances, I, hereby, tender my resignation from the post of chairman in the JHADC with effect from May 4″, Shylla stated in his letter.  Sources informed that the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) a few days back had summoned Shylla and directed him to tender his resignation.”Following the directive from the MPCC, the Chairman has tendered his resignation,” sources said.
It may be mentioned here that just before the last budget session of the Council, division within the ruling Congress had surfaced.
One group was led by the CEM Thombor Shiwat, while MB Rymbai headed the other group.
MB Rymbai’s group had failed to oust Thombor Shiwat from the CEM’s post.
Shylla was in the group led by Rymbai.Political observers here feel that axe may fall on the Deputy CEM, who was also one of the members of Rymbai’s group.
