SHILLONG: Work on the Jowai Bypass is progressing smoothly and is expected to be finished by September this year, informed West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Arunkumar Kembhavi on Thursday.
The Bypass would be of great help in easing traffic jam in the congested Jowai town. The two lane Bypass start at Thadlaskein and end at 7th Mile on the outskirts of Jowai.
Kembhavi asserted that there is no land acquisition hurdle and the project is making satisfactory progress.
At the moment, work is going on for construction of a major bridge on the Bypass.
Jowai, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills, has been growing at an unplanned rate. In recent years      rapid development has taken place in every sphere, whereas the roads have remained narrow.
Traffic congestion is the main problem of the town. The volume of traffic moving inside the town is tremendous especially when considering the population and the width of the roads.
