TURA: The Principal of Tura Don Bosco College of Teacher Education, Fr. (Dr.) John Parankimalil, has been conferred with a Global Education Excellence Award in New Delhi for the excellent results the institute has been consistently providing for the last couple of years.
Fr. John Parankimalil of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), known to many as Fr. P.D. Johny was recently awarded with the Global Education Excellence award under the category “Best Principal for Teacher Teaching Institute in Meghalaya” by Prime Time Research Media Private Limited.
After the award was bestowed on Fr Johny in New Delhi, a felicitation was held at the B.Ed. College in Tura where a citation was presented to him by Rev. Fr. Guillermo Basanes, Extra Ordinary Visitor to the Province of Guwahati and the General Councilor for Missions of the Salesian Congregation, headquartered in Rome, for the outstanding work of the college and its teachers bringing laurels to the institute.
Salesian Provincial, Rev. Fr. V.M. Thomas, Provincial Counsellors Fr. Johnson Parackal and Fr. Joseph Teron also felicitated Fr. Johny along with the teachers and teacher-trainees of DBCTE.
This year, the college walked away with eight top positions of the B.Ed. results in the university (NEHU).
Fr. Johny’s contribution to education had also been recognized in the past. He received the Computer Excellence Award for Schools in 2002 from the then President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, when he was the principal of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong.
In 2009 he was awarded Gems Foundation’s Best Teacher Award (East Zone) by Kapil Sibal, then Union HRD Minister and again in 2014 and 2015.
