SHILLONG: A man, who had allegedly raped his minor stepdaughter, has been convicted by a local court under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Pronouncing the verdict, a city court on April 27 sentenced the accused Kresstarwell Lyngkhoi  to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. The court also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 15,000. The same will go to the victim, if realized.
The court also directed the State Government to award a one-time compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim as she suffered injury and became pregnant as a result of the crime.
The incident took place in 2014 in a village in West Khasi Hills when the victim was alone in the house.
After the FIR was filed by the relatives of the victim, police had investigated the case and the charge sheet against the accused was filed last year under various sections of POCSO.
Subsequently, the case came up before the Special Judge, POCSO Act, Nongstoin.
