SHILLONG: The HSPDP has extended its support to NPP candidate Conrad Sangma, who is contesting the May 16 by poll to the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
The HSPDP also made an appeal to the people of Garo Hills to vote for Conrad for the better future of the region and the State as a whole.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, HSPDP president Ardent Basaiawmoit said the party wants the people of Garo Hills to judiciously elect a person who would represent them in the Parliament.
“The HSPDP is of the opinion that Conrad K. Sangma would be the best choice for the people of Garo Hills. He would definitely be able to live up to the expectations of the people of Garo Hills in particular and the State in general,” the party said.
Stating that HSPDP is witness to the capability of Conrad as a public leader, the party said his performance – both in the capacity of a minister and leader of the opposition – cannot be written off easily and added that his contribution will remain in the memories of the people of the State.
“It is also expected that he will find a suitable place to air the concerns and problems of the State especially in the present situation where we have seen that the chief minister of the State has failed to convince the Central government to bail us out from various problems and difficulties the State is presently encountered with,” HSPDP said.
According to HSPDP, the people of Garo Hills will also have to decide whom they want to send to Parliament – a protestor who would have to spend most of the time on the streets of Delhi together with the leaders of the Congress party or a facilitator who would passionately mediate with the Central government on various issues and problems afflicting the State.
