Nongtdu laid to rest

SHILLONG: The mortal remains of former Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader OL Nongtdu were  laid to rest on Monday.
Nongtdu (78) passed away on Saturday at his residence at Pynthorbah after a brief illness.
The state political leaders and people from all walks of life attended the funeral service which began from his residence at Pynthorbah in the afternoon culminating at Pynthorumkhrah  Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Condolences: Assembly Speaker A T Mondal in a condolence  message issued on Monday expressed sorrow over the demise of Nongtdu.
The Speaker said that he will always be remembered as a very warm, caring and a compassionate person.  In his passing away, the State has lost one of its political stalwarts.
The Speaker also extended condolences on behalf of all the members, officers and staff  of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The MPCC led by its President DD Lapang also condoled the death of Nongtdu who was the former President of MPCC at a meeting held here on Monday
The members present recalled the multifaceted personality of Nongtdu, and his contributions to the party as an organizational leader. They recalled his contributions as the Parliamentarian, Minister, legislator, PCC President and as the General Secretary, MPCC for many years. The meeting recalled how the wisdom of Nongtdu had guided the party for more than four decades.
According to Lapang, the death of Nongtdu is a personal loss for him. He observed that the void caused due to his demise would be difficult to fill.
