SHILLONG: Customs officers of Headquarters Preventive Unit, Shillong have seized Peacock Classic, Jet Excellent and Paris Special Filter brand smuggled cigarettes of foreign origin from Polo parking lot in the city, early Monday morning.
The consignment was smuggled through Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar Border and brought to Shillong from Imphal for sale in Shillong.
The value of the contraband is estimated at Rs.13.58 lakh.
Investigation of the case is in progress to track down the persons involved in this illicit trade, said I.R. Kharkongor, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters Preventive).
