Truckers call off strike after SP’s intervention

SHILLONG: The proposed 48-hour Chakka bandh called by All Assam Goods Carrier Trucks Drivers and Handymen Union scheduled to start on Wednesday at 12th mile at Jorabat was called off due to the intervention of Ri Bhoi SP G.D. Kharwanlang.
The grievances of Union were the alleged extortion by the police and the staff of transport department in the highways.    The SP who met the Union members assured all support to them and asked them to contact him or register complaints if they come across any instance of harassment.
