Dreaded GNLA commander surrenders

TURA: One of banned GNLA’s most elusive commanders overseeing the outfit’s armed rebellion in remote Chokpot region of South Garo Hills has surrendered to police on Thursday.
GNLA area commander Hedeo Ch Momin has surrendered to police along with three other cadres in Chokpot region. NGOs and church leaders along with Chokpot Peace Forum were at the forefront of the peace negotiations to bring them back to the mainstream.
Hedeo who also goes by the name of Cellopa and Karak hails from Rongpakgre village of Chokpot. He along with three of his men surfaced at Deku from where they proceeded to Rongpakgre to recover their hidden arms before proceeding on to Chokpot, 13 kms away.
Two of the cadres belong to Sibbari while a third hails from Williamnagar.
The GNLA leader is an explosive expert and was the main person behind a string of IED attacks on security forces in the Chokpot region.
He was reportedly trained in the use of explosives by the banned ULFA. He is also wanted for a series of crimes including murder, kidnapping and extortion.
