SHILLONG: Wednesday’s seizure of Rs.16.20 lakh somewhere near Jengjal in West Garo Hills is under investigation.
Election department officials are tightlipped over the entire incident but sources said the department would take action against any officer if there is any lapse on their part.
Sources also said the matter is being handled by the Returning Officer.
In its effort to prevent use of money power in the May 16 by-election to Tura Lok Sabha seat, the Flying Squad on Wednesday seized Rs.16.20 lakh from the vehicle of one Chongteng K. Sangma, brother-in-law of Independent legislator from Bajengdoba Brigady N. Marak.
Marak, Parliamentary Secretary in charge Agriculture and PWD (Building) is supporting the Congress-led MUA government.
