SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar on Tuesday informed that he has called a meeting with officials of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Wednesday to discuss the issue of perennial problem of shortage of LPG cylinders.
Admitting that there have been numerous complaints of shortage of cooking gas cylinders in the city, he said that the distributors or gas agencies have been putting the blame on short supply of LPG cylinders from IOC, Guwahati.
“Since we don’t have any IOC official stationed here we have asked them to come for the meeting on Wednesday to solve the crisis,” Dkhar added.
The meeting assumes significance since people in several parts of the capital city are facing severe crisis due to untimely distribution of LPG cylinders, which has given rise to black marketing.
Reacting to a query about black marketing, Dkhar said he has shortage of staff and is unable to monitor any such illegal business.
He added the IOC should station one officer in the State capital so that they can monitor the smooth supply of LPG cylinders.
