SHILLONG: Though the Congress did not win the by election in Tura, AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya, V. Narayanasamy was instrumental in ensuring the victory of the party in his home state Puducherry where the Congress emerged as the single largest party in the 30-member House.
Congress with 15 legislators, DMK (2) and Independent (1), will form the next government in Puducherry.
Narayanasamy said over phone from Puducherry on Thursday that he could not come to Tura to campaign for the party candidate since he was too busy co-coordinating the polls in his own state.
Asked about the victory of the NPP candidate in Tura, Narayanasamy said,” Since it is a by election, the sympathy factor is there”.
Though there are reports that Narayanasamy, who did not contest the Assembly polls, may be proposed as the new Chief Minister of Puducherry, the veteran leader said the decision as to who will become the Chief Minister will be left to the Congress High Command.
