SHILLONG/ TURA: With the land slide victory of BJP supported NPP candidate Conrad Sangma, BJP national spokesperson Nalin S. Kohli has repeated his stand that the result proves that the Congress led government in Meghalaya under the leadership of Mukul Sangma will collapse due to its own inner contradictions.
“I have been consistently saying that the government under the leadership of the Congress will collapse on its own due to internal contradictions,” said the BJP in charge of Meghalaya, in his reaction to the by-poll result.
According to Kohli, Conrad’s victory is a confirmation that people are against the Congress government and particularly the chief minister.
During the GHADC polls, the Congress witnessed a setback and now Mukul Sangma has faced defeat in his own pocket borough, Kohli said.
“Congress is crumbling under his leadership in the State. People want a change. They have become disillusioned with the Congress and its corruption. The people of Garo Hills have given their thumbs up to the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its good governance,” the BJP leader said.
However, Kohli said that above all, the victory is a befitting tribute to P.A. Sangma as people responded to the ‘tall son’ of Tura who had ascended to the highest level in the sphere of politics.
The BJP leader also hailed the victory of Conrad as the right decision of the people.
“We knew from day one that our man Conrad Sangma was winning. We were only waiting for the margin of victory,” said Kohli.
Terming the NPP victory as one in the right direction, Kohli said, “The people of Garo Hills have given the right verdict.”
The alliance to which the NPP belongs is well and strong in India including Garo Hills,” added BJP state spokesman Biplop Kr Bose.
