JOWAI:  West Jaintia Hills Police busted an illegal arms factory in the district following a raid on the house of one Heli Suchiang (70) at Mulum village under Raliang Police Outpost on Friday.
According to West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police R Muthu, the raid was conducted between 12 to 1:00 pm.
The police recovered and seized six country made revolvers, six SBBL guns, two DBBL gun, two pipes for making gun barrels etc., following the raid.
“The owner of the house could not give a satisfactory answer justifying the possession of the arms even though he produced some documents showing that he had the license to repair fire arms…An FIR was lodged against him and his accomplice Da-u-ru Suchiang of Nongkynrih village,” the SP said adding that both have been arrested.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first time that an illegal arms factory was busted in Jaintia Hills.
In 2009, the Jaintia Hills police led by the former SP, MK Singh had busted an arms factory producing small arms and a gun manufacturer was arrested at Thadsning village near Thangrain.
