Sonowal calls on Gogoi, to take oath on May 24

Guwahati: The BJP’s chief minister designate Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday called on outgoing Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi at the latter’s official residence to invite him to the swearing-in ceremony of the new ministry to be held on May 24 next.
Sonowal also requested Gogoi to advise the new government in course of discharging its responsibility in coming days. Sonowal was accompanied by senior BJP leaders including party’s general secretary Ram Madhab.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Assam PB Acharya by virtue of powers vested in him by clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India on Sunday appointed Sarbananda Sonowal to be the next chief minister of Assam vides order no. GSAG/SS Govt/2016 dtd. 22/05/16.
Sarbananda Sonowal after being elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Sunday called on the Governor and handed over the letter of support of 86 newly elected representative of the 126 member House of Assam Legislative Assembly. Dr Himanta Bishwa Sarmah proposed the name of Sonowal as the leader of the BJP legislature party.
The AGP with 14 MLAs and BPF with 12 MLAs have extended support to BJP to form the Government.
