Guwahati: MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury was on Friday appointed the pro-tem speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
Assam Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya appointed Choudhary until a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker were elected by the House, a government release said here.
Choudhary will perform the duties of the Speaker till commencement of the first meeting of the 14th House on June 1.
The June 1 session would be the first of the BJP-AGP-BPF government, formed on May 24 after a landslide victory with the alliance wresting power from the Congress winning 86 of the 126 Assembly seats. (PTI)
