Lapang remembers Fr Sngi as leader of Hill State movement

SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister DD Lapang has condoled the death of Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, SDB, who also hails from Ri Bhoi district. Lapang said that Fr. Sngi was also a leader who fought for the Hill state.
In a condolence message, Lapang, who is also the MPCC president, said that it is with sadness that he received the information that Fr. Sngi, known and loved by the people of the State, was no more.
“Professed as a Salesian and an ordained Priest, he is known to me as a teacher who taught the subject ‘Sacred Scripture’ at Sacred Heart theological College Mawlai, a writer, a missionary and a loving and lovable priest and a healer of the sick and also a leader who fought for Hill State”.
Lapang also said that he and the people of Ri Bhoi acknowledge the contribution of Fr Sngi to the people of the area.
“The passing away of Fr. Sngi is a great loss to the churches and the people of the State as a whole,” he said. Lapang also conveyed condolences to the members of the Salesian congregation and to the family members of Fr. Sngi.
