Council of Nokmas submit memo to PM

TURA: In the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State, two separate memorandums were submitted to him by the Council of Nokmas and traditional Chiefs.
Along with the memorandum submitted by the president and members of the Grand Council of Meghalaya traditional Chiefs, Shillong, a separate memorandum was also submitted by the Council of Nokmas.
The Council of Nokmas, in the memorandum sought faster delivery of Judiciary and grass root administration including constitutional recognition of justice system and the Garo customary laws and practices, change of nomenclature to Nokma, Syiem and Dolloi etc.
The memorandum also consists of requests; such as strengthening of Garo Judicial system with modern facilities and early fund allocation as declared for Non-Panchayat areas from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, early construction of a bridge over Brahmaputra River, to make operational the currently dormant Baljek Airport and the opening of more border haats for boosting the region’s economy.
