Holiday for Catholic schools

SHILLONG: All the catholic schools will remain closed on Monday in view of the funeral of late Fr Sylvanus Sngi.
Meanwhile, the General Administration Department has said that the state government employees who intend to attend the funeral service are allowed to leave their offices at 12:00 pm.
A statement by the Shillong Archdiocesan Education Society said on Sunday that as a mark of respect to the departed soul, the Society urged all the catholic schools in the Archdiocese to declare a holiday on May 30.
The statement also said that parking will be arranged at Don Bosco Technical School, St Anthony’s School and Christ King College, Laitumkhrah.
Traffic arrangements
In a separate statement on traffic arrangements, East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said that as thousands of people are expected to attend the funeral when the body is taken from Mawlai Parish to Laitumkhrah Cathedral and thence to the Cemetery starting from 11 am, all light motor vehicles will be parked inside St Anthony’s Staduim, Don Bosco Technical School, one side along Jacob’s ladder, Stephan Hall, between Shillong College and St Mary’s School and at Dhankheti Parking Lot.
Heavy vehicles will be parked at Iewrynghep Ground, Fire Brigade.
The route to be taken for the funeral procession is Mawlai Phudmawrie – FCI- Forest Colony – Polo – 4th Furlong – B.K. Bojoria School – Shillong College – Don Bosco – Laitumkhrah Cathedral and later to the cemetery at Nongrimaw.
The SP said that traffic will be temporarily stopped during the funeral procession.
