State Govt working on guidelines for housing scheme

SHILLONG: The State government is preparing the guidelines for the Meghalaya Affordable Housing Scheme which is slated to be implemented within this financial year.
Housing Minister Zenith Sangma on Wednesday said the department is working on how to go about the   scheme and implement it successfully.
It is learnt that the State government had made funds available for the scheme in the last financial year.
The government initially plans to build 10,000 houses in the State under the scheme by providing 25 per cent of the total cost of the house to the beneficiaries and also making provisions to provide government loans to the beneficiaries for the remaining 75 per cent.
According to Sangma, the scheme is meant for the economically weaker sections of the population and will be implemented in both rural and urban areas of the State.
