Elderly man arrested for raping minor

TURA: The rape of a 13-year-old class VII student has been brought to light by a conglomeration of NGOs upon whose pressure the parents of the victim filed an FIR at the Tura Women Police Station leading to the arrest of the accused on Wednesday.
As per the NGOs, namely the AYWO, FKJGP, GSU, GHSMC and ADE, all from Garobadha, the crime took place  in December 2015 when one, Robert Ch Sangma (65), a chowkidar of the Veterinary Office at Dorambok under Mukdangra, raped a minor girl in his official quarter and threatened her of dire consequences if the same was revealed.
The crime would have gone unnoticed, but for the girl getting pregnant, which was clearly evident this year.
“We got wind of the crime and immediately convinced the parents to file an FIR which resulted in the arrest of the culprit,” the NGOs said.
According to the NGOs the accused is a resident of Simbukol, Selsella in West Garo Hills.
The NGOs while strongly condemning the incident have urged the concerned authorities to take stern action against the perpetrator of the crime as per law.
