SHILLONG: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan is currently in Shillong on a personal visit.
The Speaker arrived here on Wednesday and will remain in the station till Saturday.
On Thursday, she paid a visit to Smit village and Cherrapunjee.
The Lok Sabha Speaker also met Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan and Home Minister Roshan Warjri.
It is not known if any official discussion has been planned during her visit to Shillong.
Earlier on Wednesday, State BJP leaders met the Speaker at Raj Bhavan and urged her to accommodate the photographs of U Kiang Nangbah, U Tirot Sing and Pa Togan Sangma, the three freedom fighters of the State in the Parliament’s photo gallery.
Another request was to telecast the life histories of these three freedom fighters on Rajya Sabha TV or Lok Sabha TV.
