Woman among five arrested
SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, a constable of Meghalaya Police has been killed by a group of persons even after receiving a ransom amount of Rs 5 lakh from the victim’s family, a delayed report said on Friday.
The victim Mrinal Kanti Modok was abducted by a group of persons on May 26 from Chipit village in East Garo Hills.
The matter came to light after police picked up the main accused in the case Bearsingh T Sangma @ Aldurik (25) and his girlfriend Sengchi D Sangma (20 yrs) from Majipara, Dudhnoi, Assam on Thursday.
Police recovered Rs. 53,000 in cash and two mobile phones from their possession.
Police on Friday recovered the body of the victim from Dawagittimgre area in East Garo Hills.
According to East Garo Hills district police chief Davis Marak, initially the abductors had demanded Rs 70 lakh from the wife of the victim. Later, they were paid Rs 5 lakh, Marak said adding that after taking the money the abductors killed the cop.
Police, meanwhile, arrested three more people in this connection.
