SHILLONG: The State government has assured to hike the salary of over 2000 teachers of adhoc government recognised secondary schools within this year.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma gave this assurance to a delegation of teachers under banner of the Federation of All Meghalaya Adhoc Secondary School Teachers Association (FAMASTA), which called on him Friday.
“The chief minister assured that within this year the salary of the teachers will be hiked,” the FAMASTA president Bina Kharumnuid told reporters after the meeting.
There are 2352 teachers teaching in 434 adhoc government recognized secondary schools across the state.
She said, “We deserve equal pay for equal work at par with the teaching fraternity working in deficit pattern and government schools.”
“As per our knowledge the department has already proposed a 100 per cent hike in adhoc teachers’ salary and other proposal to upgrade all the adhoc secondary school to deficit system,” she said.
She stated that the teachers were currently earning Rs 10,000 per month. “We expect the state government to hike the salary of all teachers, including the Hindi teachers who are paid only a meagre amount of Rs 3500, to Rs 20,000 along with allowances,” she said.
“We have given the Government one month’s time to meet our demands,” Kharumnuid said.
