SHILLONG: After the initial enthusiasm to effect a change of leadership in CLP, there is lull in the activities of the dissidents.
MPCC president D.D. Lapang, who is projected as the next CLP leader, had said last week that the dissidents will wait for the last word from the AICC even though the chief minister had claimed that ‘all is well’ within the CLP.
A ‘rebel’ Congress leader said on Sunday that they will go slow now, and when they get the required numbers, the matter will be presented to the AICC for a change of leadership.
The dissidents are also waiting for the appointment of a new AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya after V. Narayanasamy, who was earlier holding the charge, was chosen as the chief minister of Puducherry.
Party sources revealed that several Congress legislators and ministers had gone back to the chief minister extending their support, effectively reducing the dissidents’ hopes of garnering maximum support.
