HNLC’s call to oust ‘dictatorial and inefficient’ CM

SHILLONG: With the banned HNLC raising the political issue of demand for change of leadership in the Congress Legislature Party, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday said politicians or political groups who reach out to the banned organizations to further the cause of their political agenda would be probed.
In the context of rumblings in the CLP, the HNLC in a statement to the media on Sunday said that it would target the MLAs who are supporting the chief minister even as the outfit threatened to blow up the MPCC office at Thana Road.
The HNLC also asked the MLAs to overthrow the ‘dictatorial and inefficient’ chief minister.
However, reacting to a question on any political angle in the stand of the HNLC, the chief minister said that the State government has a mechanism to verify if HNLC has any nexus with any political leader or group of politicians in the wake of demand for change of leadership.
“We have a mechanism to verify politicians reaching out to some groups to carry out their political agenda. The concerned agencies will verify the matter and if it is true, the law of the land will prevail,” he said.
To a question, he said that it is not the issue of suspecting anyone, but it is a question of verification and added that the politician-criminal nexus has negative ramifications.
He also ruled out any partial treatment to the militant groups in Garo Hills compared to Khasi Hills as alleged by HNLC.
“The GNLA is on the run due to the pressure on the part of security forces, and moreover, senior cadres are also surrendering,” he said, while clarifying on the matter.
