Other students give clean chit to Minerva

SHILLONG: The majority of students of Minerva Institute of Medical Technology based in Kolkata said that the institute did not force any of the students to leave even as an FIR was lodged against the alleged irregularities in the Institute.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the students said that as per the agreement, if any students want to leave, they must send a mail to the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT), Shillong, and reimburse the money spent on them by the Government.
The controversy surfaced after five students fled from the Institute citing irregularities.
However, counteracting the claims, majority of students said, “The teachers in Minerva Institute of Medical Technology are well certified and have taught in many other institutions. They are using Google for better and extra information. They also provide us notes.”
There were also allegations that the management of the institute did not allow the students to leave without depositing some documents, to which the students stated that it was mentioned in the agreement that before leaving for Shillong they should deposit their documents along with specified reasons as to why they want to leave the institute. Stating that none of the female students was molested, the students maintained that an inspection was recently done from Shillong and every student claimed that they were fine.
On the alleged signing of the blank paper by students, they said that it was only a confirmation paper made by the institute for students to decide whether they want to stay or leave.
The students claimed that the classes are conducted regularly and the practicals will start after the results are out.
As to the allegations that the institute does not hold radiology, yoga and pharmacy courses despite listing it in the prospectus, the students claimed that none of the students opted for such courses.
The students alleged that Agnes Kharshiing, CSWO president had provided false information without confirmation from all the pupils.
On the other hand, Kharshiing, on Tuesday lodged a complaint at Shillong Sadar police station against the Institute.
The complaint stated that two students from Meghalaya informed that the Institute withheld their original documents which were submitted during their admission.
Lack of laboratory and classrooms facilities, holding of irregular classes, supply of question papers one day before the examination for students who were admitted few days back, were other issues cited in the FIR.
She wanted proper probe as to whether the institute has obtained approval from All India Council for Technical Education for holding its Academic Session. It may be reminded that the institute had signed an MoU with the Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT), Labour Department, Government  of Meghalaya on November 5, 2015, to provide free skill training and guaranteed placement in medical and nursing  sector to the youth of the state.
