SHILLONG: An educationist from Garo Hills was among the privileged ones to be part of the ‘In- Residence’ Programme for award winning teachers at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
Gamchi Timre R. Marak, Principal, Educere Higher Secondary School Williamnagar, a State teacher awardee, 2015, represented Meghalaya in the weeklong programme held from May 21-27. 12 teachers from across the country attended the programme.
The In-Residence Programme is an initiative by President Pranab Mukherjee to open Rashtrapati Bhawan for greater participation and involvement of the common man in its activities.
The President has always held that Rashtrapati Bhawan belonged to the nation and the people at large.
Series of In-Residence Programmes have been held for innovation scholars, writers, artistes, NIT scholars and inspired teachers of universities.
The team of award winning teachers interacted with the President of India, Secretary to the President, Additional Secretary to the President, officials from CBSE, NCERT, CIET and many other educational institutes and facilities from around the city besides those within Rashtrapati Bhawan estate.
The team had the opportunity of meeting Manas Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, who takes keen interest in uplifting education. The purpose of the In-Residence Programme for award winning teachers is to instill and inspire the participating teachers to inspire other teachers to take education to a greater level in nation building and encourage the students to take up teaching as future profession.
