Guwahati: Within a fortnight of a BJP-led coalition government assuming power in Assam, the ruling party brought the municipal corporation of the state’s main city Guwahati under its control on Friday.
BJP councilors Mrigen Sarania and Bijuli Kalita Medhi were on Friday sworn-in as the mayor and deputy mayor respectively of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner Dr M Angamuthu administered the oath of office to the duo at a function attended by several BJP MLAs, leaders and outgoing mayor.
Patra had resigned from the post of the GMC mayor last week after the Congress lost majority in the Corporation as the BJP and its ally managed to wrestle all four legislative assembly constituencies within Guwahati from the Congress in the state polls. (UNI)
