Parents angry over crash of server
SHILLONG: A local lad from Shillong, Toshan Kharumnuid has cracked the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced 2016 conducted for admissions to the IITs.
As the results were announced on Sunday, Toshan Kharumnuid ranked 333 in the ST list.
He is the son of State Planning Board co chairman John F Kharshiing and he did his college studies from St Edmunds College.
A jubilant father said that his son is now planning to get admission in one of the top 3 IITs in the country.
He said that there is a need for awareness in North Eastern region about the IIT-JEE exams since youths can plan a well settled future if they can clear the exams.
Kharshiing said, earlier, two boys including his eldest son cracked the IIT exam in 2012.
Meanwhile, he also rued that the server for the results crashed on Sunday when the results were announced.
He said that he was trying to get the result of his son from 10 am but no one could access the server, adding that the Government should have anticipated the congestion since lakhs would have logged into the server to the check the results.
“At one hand, we are talking about Digital India, on the other hand, we have to face situations like this,” he said. It may be mentioned that over 36,500 students out of the 1.5 lakh candidates who took the exam, have qualified for admissions into IITs.
Jaipur’s Aman Bansal has topped the exam followed by Bhavesh Dhingra and Kunal Goyal.
It is learnt that there are 10,575 seats across 23 IITs this time, which is around 569 more than last year.
