SHILLONG: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released an amount of Rs.4 crores for the second phase of the ongoing work for the Interstate Bus Terminus coming up at Mawiong.
An official from the Transport department informed that with the releasing of funds, the PWD is on the job and the work is going on smoothly in the ISBT.
It may be mentioned that the North Eastern Council (NEC) is funding the project at a cost of Rs.48 crores.
Reacting to a query, the official said the deadline for completion of the project is 2017.
The State government has completed the first phase of the project for which an amount of Rs.4 crores was sanctioned by NEC.
The project would be of great help in decongesting the overcrowded parking lots located within Shillong town since most of the parking lots in the city are overcrowded with buses travelling to different parts of the State.
On the other hand, the ISBT at Tura is ready for inauguration and now details are being worked on how to operate the Tura ISBT that has been built on the outskirts of Tura town.
