Woman arrested thrice for illegal sale of liquor

SHILLONG: For the third time, a woman identified as Britris Marbaniang, a resident of Keating Road, was arrested by the police for selling liquor illegally.
The police personnel from Sadar police station arrested Marbaniang on the night of June 11 for selling illicit IMFL at Keating road. She was forwarded to court on Monday for facing charges under section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act.
Earlier, the woman was arrested twice for committing the same offence.
As per the Police Act, anyone found committing the same offence twice will be liable to pay a fine of Rs 10000 and for the third offence imprisonment for six months is imposed.
On being produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong on Monday, Marbaniang pleaded guilty and was fined Rs 20,000.
She deposited an amount of Rs 10,000 and prayed to the court for paying the remaining amount after one month which the court allowed.
Meanwhile, Police asserted that raids would continue at Keating road to ensure that it does not become another Demsieniong or Polo.
Police asked the people of the locality to continue to render assistance to the police personnel to make Keating Road a safer place.
