SHILLONG: Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that the NDA Government would setup a Central Agricultural University at Umiam shortly.
Addressing a press conference through video conferencing with media representatives from New Delhi, the Union Minister said that Central Government has initiated a new scheme for promoting organic farming exclusively for the North East region.
While stating that earlier there was no such scheme to promote organic farming in the country, he also lauded Meghalaya government for taking several measures to promote organic farming.
Several villages near Umiam are successfully practising organic farming, he said.
He appreciated that farmers in Meghalaya are doing a god job in production of rice and wheat even as he added that farmers in Meghalaya are also engaged in farming of various horticultural products. “The future of farmers is very bright in Meghalaya,” he said.
