Minimum daily wage revised
The deputy secretary, Labour department, has informed that the minimum daily wage for labourers and workers employed under the 28 Schedule of Employments in the State has been revised from April 1, 2016. The revised wage for unskilled workers has been hiked to Rs 181; for semi-skilled workers Rs.192; for skilled workers the new rate is Rs 203 and for highly-skilled workers the rate is Rs 225.
Yoga camp
A 5-day free Yoga camp is being organised from June 17-21 on the occasion of lnternational Day of Yoga. The camp will be jointly organized by ISKCON, Shillong and RR Colony Welfare Society, Shillong. The programme will be conducted under the supervision of lndian Yoga Culture & Yoga Therapy Centre, Guwahati.
Workshop
A State level workshop under the theme ‘Transboundary, Exotic and Emerging Diseases – A Strategic Insight and Deliberation’ was held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong on June 14. The programme was organised by the Office of the Assistant Director (Disease Investigation & Disease Surveillance Wing) Meghalaya, Shillong.
Symposium
The Bansara Eye Care Centre, Shillong in collaboration with the World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark will be organising a symposium entitled ‘The role of media and civil societies in the management of Diabetes and Diabetic Retinopathy’ on June 15 at the conference hall of the Bansara Eye Care Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
Awareness
The Office of the State Child Protection Society, Integrated Child Protection Scheme, Social Welfare department, will organize an awareness programme on Social Networking and Cyber Crime for Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges on June 17 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong from 10 AM.
Excise raids
In its continued drive against illicit liquor, the Excise staff of East Khasi Hills conducted raids in restaurants/stalls in the town and its outskirts in April, 2016 and detected 35 cases with a seizure of 117.2 litres of liquor and 54.545 litres of IMFL. 30 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
IGNOU examination
IGNOU CIT/BCA/MCA students are informed that the June Term End Practical Examinations will be held from July 13-29. The students are to contact the Study Centre/Regional Centre for the date sheet.
Competition
The H. Elias 50th Death Anniversary Commemoration Committee is conducting an Essay competition for students of secondary, higher secondary schools, colleges and universities, to commemorate the 50th Death Anniversary of Rev. Fr. H. Elias, SDB, a renowned and towering personality in the field of Khasi literature.
Championship
The 6th annual body building championship ‘Mr Ironman 2016’ (Meghalaya Open) organized by Meghalaya Bodybuilding and Fitness Association will be held at U Soso Tham on June 18 at 4:30 PM.
Clarification
With reference to the news item “Complaints against job provider”(ST, June 14, 2016) it is to clarify that the person who cheated Arda Kirang Rymbai is not Jis Dkhar but Himon Malang, son of Iang Pala from East Jaintia Hills, who was earlier apprehended in September, 2012.
Unclaimed body
An unknown male patient, aged 46 years, was admitted at Shillong Civil Hospital on June 11 and expired on June 12. All concerned relatives, etc., are requested to collect the body from the hospital morgue within three days failing which the body will be send for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.
