SHILLONG: A devastating fire engulfed over 15 shops at Umsning, Ri-Bhoi district in the wee hours of Thursday.
The shops were situated at Umsning Proper ‘A’ and the damage has been estimated at Rs 50 lakh.
The fire was controlled after a struggle of several hours by the fire brigade. However, cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Nicky A Kharthangmaw, chairman ka Umsning Town Durbar (UTD), lamented the unavailability of fire brigade at Umsning, Mawrong, Mawhati, Sohnidan.
