SHILLONG: The single window agency (SWA) headed by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma which met here on Friday approved 15 investment proposals in the State while holding back two others for further study by the line departments.
Speaking to media persons here after the meeting, the chief minister said the SWA discussed 15 investment proposals out of which eight proposals were made for Ri-Bhoi, three for East Khasi Hills, two for East Jaintia Hills and one each for West Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills.
The SWA failed to take a decision on a proposal for setting up of a large egg production unit in Ri-Bhoi since the government has its own mission livestock programme under which it is providing assistance to people to rear poultry for production of eggs and meat.
The unit requires a large tract of land and is intended to produce 1.81 crore eggs per annum.
“The State government has directed the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department to conduct a study on the impact on farmers if such a large unit comes up in the State,” the chief minister said.
The SWA also held back another proposal of a private firm to set up an amusement park in Khanapara since the firm does not have any local promoter. The firm will be asked to comply with the directive of taking on board a promoter from the State.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also said that the government wants to encourage local entrepreneurs of the State, even as he added that the government is required to reach to the potential entrepreneurs of the State.
Stating that the Commerce and Industries department has been asked to promote local entrepreneurs, the chief minister said the department will prepare model of projects for local entrepreneurs.
“We will also provide support to local entrepreneurs through the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation through a simple credit flow,” he said.
Reacting to a query about poor investment proposals for Garo Hills, the chief minister said the law and order situation in any place would have its bearing on the mindset of the investor and the investor would always look for minimum risk when he is investing.
He, however, expressed hope that Garo Hills would also see huge investment proposals in the near future since North Garo Hills is already connected with railways and the Agia- Nangalbibra power line has resulted in easy availability of power in the region.
