SHILLONG: A motion to bring non-tribals, serving as lawyers, doctors, teachers etc., within the jurisdiction of KHADC, under the ambit of Trading by Non-Tribal Act, 1954 was moved by KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum on the second day of the Council’s Summer Session here on Tuesday.
“Non-tribals in the legal, medical and teaching professions, engineers, shopkeepers and even cobblers etc., should be brought under the purview of the regulation. They are to obtain and apply for license for running any business or trade,” he said adding that any work that yields an earning should be brought under the Act.
Nongrum added that the Council should not be satisfied with the present revenue collection but plug in the leakages as much as possible.
In his reply, the KHADC CEM said that the matter will be discussed with legal consultants.
