SHILLONG: After a lull, a kidnapping case involving the father of a Catholic priest has created insecurity in the minds of the people of Garo Hills.
Parliamentary Secretary in charge Information and Public Relations, Rophul S. Marak informed on Wednesday that one Idinon R. Marak, father of Catholic priest, Fr. Francis N. Marak, a resident of Imbloka village, was kidnapped by suspected militants on June 16 from Gulpani, Rongara in South Garo Hills.
Expressing concern over the incident, Rophul appealed to the kidnappers to release him unharmed. Baghmara legislator Samuel Sangma also urged the abductors to release Marak at the earliest.
When contacted, police said that they suspect the kidnapping to be a handiwork of Bangladeshi gangs. Police have got few leads and there has been no demand for ransom till date.
