SOS Children’s Village celebration

SHILLONG:  The SOS Children’s Village, Shillong on Thursday celebrated the 97th birth anniversary of its founder father Dr Herman Gmeiner.Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Governor V Shamuganathan told the children of the village that perseverance and self confidence are two important aspects to achieve anything in life.The governor said that he would like to acknowledge the pivotal role played by the SOS Children’s villages in championing the rights of children by giving them right to education and health which are important to the growth of the children.He also appreciated the role of the mothers who are nurturing the children to live like brothers and sisters.Commissioner and Secretary in charge of Social Welfare, Tining Dkhar informed that the State Government had handed over 11.5 acres of land for setting up of the SOS Children’s Village in 1992.
