Demand life imprisonment for murder accused

NONGSTOIN: Hundreds of women gathered outside the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday demanding that murder accused Kias Wahlang held for killing a 40-year-old Bliantina Lyngkhoi is denied bail.
Wahlang brutally murdered Lyngkhoi when she was working in a forest at Kharai Marskuin on June 15. The victim was hit on the head with a spade and died on the spot subsequently.
Later, Wahlang, a resident of New Mawlangsu, surrendered at the Nongstoin Police Station on June 17.
On Thursday, family and community members of Lyngkhoi along with members of Synjuk ki Seng Longkmie, Mawlangsu area and KSU Mawthadraishan Circle met the Superintendent of Police as well as the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills with a petition to reject the bail plea of the accused.
In the letter submitted to the SP, DC and the officer in charge of Nongstoin PS the sympathizers of the victim stated that the accused should be handed life imprisonment.
The investigating officer assured the public of full cooperation and stated that a copy of the letter will be sent to the District and Sessions Judge.
The victim, who was a widow, left behind eight children.
