Mukul seeks Mehta’s extension
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has written to Union Ministry of Home Affairs to extend the services of present DGP Rajiv Mehta for three more months.Mehta is set to retire on June 30. Sources said on Friday that the government sought the extension of Mehta’s tenure “inview of the continuity of anti-insurgency operations” in Garo Hills.

BJP boost for GHADC alliance  
TURA: It was in Dalu constituency of West Garo Hills that the saffron party created history with the election of its first ever legislator, Late Nityanarayan Simchang, over eighteen years ago. He was given a ministerial berth in the then B B Lyngdoh government of 1998.
The lotus bloomed again in its former stronghold with Independent MDC in the Garo Hills Autonomous district Council, Kurosh M Marak, joining the saffron party on Friday.
His entry into the BJP raises the party’s strength to two in the present GHADC currently headed by the NPP-led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance (GHPA) to which it is a member.
The other BJP MDC Bhupendra Hajong was elected on a party ticket from Zikzak constituency of Ampati/Mahendraganj region in South West Garo Hills district.

Job scam in PWD revealed
SHILLONG: An alleged recruitment scam in PWD Road division in Jowai, West Jainitia Hills has come to the fore since due selection process was not followed in the appointments of staff.
Illegal appointment of over 90 staff under the jurisdiction of the P.W.D Road North Division Jowai revealed an alleged recruitment scam as per the reply to the RTI query filed by the Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF) Laskein Block Circle.
The MPUF alleged that crores of rupees were spent on the staff for their salaries and claimed there is a job scam since the appointment did not go through MPSC and DSC in violation of office memorandum of the finance department.
The MPUF said that the reply to RTI received from the North Jowai Division P.W.D Road  revealed  that as per  the work chart of the Assistant Executive Engineer P.W.D Road’s Shangpung Sub-Division there are 33 staff, while there are  32 staff at the Assistant Executive Engineers P.W.D Road North No 1, and  25 staff at the Assistant Executive Engineer P.W.D Road J.K Nartiang Sub-Division. The total is 90 staff.
